Today I bring you pictures of a shop in Takeshita Dori, in Harajuku. It´s an small shop where you can find all kind of fashion for your pet. All sizes and colours. In the front door they had season costumes. Halloweeeen is coming!

No se ven muchos perros por la calle. Los japoneses no tienen mucho tiempo libre ni espacio para atender a sus mascotas asi que poca gente tiene perro. Los pocos perros que se ven por la calle estan siempre muy limpios y bien cuidados. Apuesto a que más de uno desayuna caviar.

You don´t see many dogs in the street. Japanese people doesn´t much time or space to have pets so not many people has dogs. The few dogs that you can find in the street are always very clean and well treated. I bet more than one has caviar for breakfast.

Otra cosa simpática del mundo de los perros en Japón es que cuando los sacan a pasear por la noche les ponen chalecos reflectantes o luces como a las bicicletas para que nadie los atropelle. Ni que decir tiene que desde que estoy por Japón no he pisado una mierda. Me pregunto quién sería el capullo que dijo que trae buena suerte…

Another funny thing about the world of dogs in Japan is that when they take them out at night they make them wear reflecting jackects or lights just like the bicycles so no one can run over them. No need to mention that since I´m in Japan I haven´t stepped on a dog´s shit. I wonder who was the smartass who said that brings goodluck…

Pues resulta que es un casco de obra plegable. Cuesta nada menos que 10.000 yenes. Al cambio unos 76 euros. Al maniquí le gusta AC/DC.

No lejos del casco, en la sección de prevención de crímenes del Tokyu Hands, encontré este curioso dispositivo de defensa personal. Si alguien amenaza tu integridad física no lo confrontes, tírale esta fantástica bola llena de pintura rosa para que la policía lo encuentre rápido. Yo no creo que sea una gran idea…

Not far from the helmet, in the crime prevention section of Tokyu Hands, I found this interesting self defense device. If someone threaten your safety, don´t face him, throw at him this amazing ball full of pink paint so police can find him quickly. I think that´s not a very good idea…

De camino a Harajuku me topé con esta tienda de vinilos. Parece que el autor del escaparate tiene un cacao mental grande.

On my way to Harajuku I found this vinyl shop. It seems that the author of the window shop has some big mental confusion.

No sé yo que pinta el cartel pidiendo el acercamiento de los terroristas convictos de ETA a sus familias junto con una guía turística de la comunidad autónoma vasca en una tienda de vinilos.

I can´t find the connection with this paper demanding the raprochment of ETA‘s convicts terrorists to their families along with a touristic guide of the basque autonomous community in a vinyl shop.

It seems that japanese people don´t do anything but getting married. I always find weddings whenever I go for a walk.

Huele a navidad. It smells like christmas.

Como siempre lo mejor me lo encontré volviendo a casa. Estos amiguetes estaban en el puente de Harajuku fabricando burbujas gigantes. ¿Por qué? Porque quieren.

As usual I found the best on my way back home. This guys were at Harajuku bridge making huge bubbles.  Why? Because they wanted to.

Tengo que probarlo, parecía divertido y relajante.

El sábado pasado fui a visitar Nikkô. Salimos muy temprano de la estación de Asakusa. Muy cerca de la estación está el edificio de Asahi, famosa marca de bebidas. Aquella cosa dorada que se ve se supone que es una llama, pero los tokyotas lo llaman la cagada dorada.

Last saturday I went to visit Nikkò. We left very early from Asakusa station. Very close to the station is the Asahi building, famous beverage brand. That golden thing it’s supposed to be a flame, but Tokyo people call it “the golden shit”.

Nikkô está a unos 140 km al norte de Tokyo, en la prefectura de Toshigi, pero en tren se puede llegar en alrededor de dos horas. Esta preciosa localidad es famosa por sus templos, balnearios y cascadas.

Nikkô is around 140 km north of Tokyo, in Toshigi prefecture, but you can get there by train in about two hours. This beautiful town is famous for its temples, spas and waterfalls.

Cerca de la estación podéis probar los daifuku. Pasteles de arroz rellenos de anko (pasta endulzada de judías). Puede que no suene muy apetitoso pero están muy buenos.

Around the station you can try daifuku. Rice cakes filled with anko (zweet bean paste). It may not sound very good, but they are delicious.

La mejor forma de moverse por Nikkô es en autobús. Nuestro conductor era muy amable y nos decía que habíamos elegido un buen día para visitar Nikkô. A veces hay atascos de varias horas porque la gente viene con sus coches.

The best way to move around Nikkô is by bus. Our driver was very kind and he was telling us that we chose a very good day to visit Nikkô. Sometimes you can get stucked in a traffic jam for hours because many people come in their own cars.

La primera parada fue para visitar el templo de Toshogu. Un espectacular complejo, declarado patrimonio de la humanidad por la Unesco.

First stop was to visit Toshogu shrine. An outstanding complex declared world heritage by Unesco.

A la entrada del templo está esta pagoda de cinco pisos. Sus cinco niveles representan, de manera ascendente, a la tierra, el agua, el fuego, el viento y al cielo.

At the shrine entrance there is this five level pagoda. It’s five levels stand for, from bottom to top, earth, water, fire, wind and the sky.

Este hombre tiene el trabajo más aburrido de Japón.

The most boring job in Japan is for this man.

Este es el establo sagrado. Arriba podeis ver los grabados de los tres monos sabios. En este establo guardan un caballo que Nueva Zelanda regaló a Nikkô.

This is the sacred stable. Up in the front you can see the carvings of the three wise monkeys. In this stable they keep the horse that New Zealand gave to Nikkô.

Los tres monos sabios provienen de leyendas chinas que se difundieron en Japón con la llegada de la escritura en el siglo VIII.

The three wise monkeys come from chinese legends spreaded in Japan along with the arrival of the writting in the VIII century.

Este grabado de un gato durmiendo es el nemuri neko. Algunos dicen que simboliza a Nikkô o al espíritu de Ieyasu Tokugawa, el más famoso shogun de la historia de Japón y cuyas cenizas descansan a pocos metros.

This carving of an sleeping cat is the nemuri neko. Some say it symbolizes Nikkô or the spirit of Ieyasu Tokugawa, the most famous shogun in Japan history and whose ashes rest a few meters far from there.

Nos encontramos una boda cuando volvíamos a la salida.

Si venís a Tokyo y no tenéis tiempo de ir a Kyoto o Nara, Nikkô es una excelente alternativa.

If you come to Tokyo and you don’t have time to go to Kyoto or Nara, Nikkô is an excellent alternative for a one day trip.

Después del templo de Toshogu cogimos el autobús otra vez para ir a ver las cataratas.

After Toshogu shrine we took the bus again to visit the waterfalls.

Hay un bonito restaurante justo en frente de las cataratas.

There is a nice restaurant just in front of the waterfalls.

Estas cataratas están a una hora de distancia de las otras en autobús.

This waterfalls are an hour far by bus from the last one.

Para terminar tomamos amazake. Licor de arroz dulce que se sirve caliente. A mi no me gustó pero hay mucha gente que le encanta. Si queréis visitar Nikkô en un día desde Tokyo os puede salir por alrededor de 10.000 yenes contando transporte y comidas. En euros, unos 73 por persona.

To finnish we had amazake. Sweet rice liquor served hot. I did’nt like it but many people love it. If you want to visit Nikkô from Tokyo in one day the price would be around 10.000 yen including transportation and meals. Around 73 € per person.

Last week and because of the typhoon passing around Tokyo area we got the day off at the school. I went to take a look at the Tokyu Hands that I was talking you about the other day. There you can spend a few hours looking at all the weird stuff they sell. Here is sample. The ballpen with a hole so you can spin it easily.

También había otras cosas curiosas como estas figuras – puzzles de cartón que se han puesto de moda. Eran un poco caras. Unos 7 euros al cambio.

You can also find some other interesting stuff like this puzzle-figures made of cardboard quite popular these days. They were a little bit expensive. Around 7 euros.

Me acordé de la exposición que nos enseñaba Ale el otro día en su blog cuando las vi.

When I saw them I thought of the art exhibition that Ale was talking about in his blog.

Si queréis comprar una paellera también tienen. Esta debe ser de  buena calidad porque cuesta nada menos que 300 euros.

If you want to buy a paellera they also have. This must be very good quality because is around 300 euros.

Pero de todo lo que vi esto fue lo que más me gustó. No es ninguna novedad pero no pude evitar comprar uno.

But out of everything I saw this was the best. It´s nothing new but  I liked it so much that I bought one.

Hoy tengo para vosotros unas fotos que tomé hace unos días en Shinjuku por la noche. La torre que véis en la foto es de la compañía telefónica NTT Docomo. Esta venía sin king kong.

Today I have for you some pictures I took in Shinjuku at night time a few days ago. The tower you see in the background belongs to the telephone company NTT Docomo. King kong wasn’t included this time.

Este enorme centro comercial es el Takashimaya de Shinjuku. Parte de este edificio es un Tokyu Hands. Una cadena de tienda en la que puedes encontrar todo lo que necesites para hacer manualidades o reformas.

This huge department store is Shinjuku’s Takashimaya. One part of this building is a Tokyu Hands. A chain of stores where you can find anything you need for your handicrafts or refurbishments.

¡Mirad que karaoke más chulo! Está muy cerca de la salida oeste de la estación JR (japan railways) de Shinjuku.

Take a look at this cool karaoke! It’s very close to the west exit of JR (Japan railways) station in Shinjuku.

También muy cerca de la salida oeste de la estación tenéis la famosa calle Omoide Yokocho. Lleva abierta desde 1948 y aqui os podéis poner ciegos de yakitoris. Sólo por el ambiente y el colorido de esta calle merece echarle un vistazo.

Also very close to the west exit of the station is the famous Omoide Yokocho street. It’s opened since 1948 and here you can have plenty of yakitoris. Just for the atmosphere and the colours of this street it’s worth to take a look.

Esta es la salida este de la estación de Shinjuku. This is east exit of Shinjuku station.

Estaba buscando otra calle famosa que está en el barrio de Kabukicho. Se trata de la golden gai. Una calle con más de 50 años de historia y unos 200 bares y restaurantes. Si le preguntáis a cualquier japonés por kabukicho os dirá que alli sólo hay putas y yakuzas, pero también podéis encontrar un montòn de restaurantes y sitios con encanto aptos para todos los públicos.

I was looking for another famous street inside Kabukicho area. It’s the golden gai. A street with more than 50 years of history and about 200 bars and restaurants. If you ask any japanese about kabukicho he would probably say that there is only whores and yakuzas there, but you can also find a lot of restaurantes and charming places suitable for general public.

Cada puerta que véis es un pequeño bar de sólo unos metros cuadrados.

Every door you see it’s a bar only a few square meters long.

Esta es la salida oeste de la estación de Yoyogi. Ya huele a casa.

This is the west exit of Yoyogi station. I can smell home.

Es normal ver a un policía con un palo en la puerta de las koban (casetas de policía) montando guardia. A mi me hace gracia. Me recuerda al tio la vara.

It’s a common thing to see policemen guarding with a wooden stick outside the koban (small police station). It make me laugh. Reminds me of el tio la vara (spanish comedy show. sorry no subtitles).

Ayer estuve con una amiga por el barrio de Takadonababa. He pasado muchas veces por esta estación pero nunca había parado a echar un vistazo. Es un barrio muy alegre y con mucho movimiento. Es famoso porque cerca esta la universidad de Waseda, una de las más importantes de Tokyo. Ayer era jornada de puertas abiertas y había muchos estudiantes y curiosos.

Yesterday I was visiting Takanobaba neighborhood with a friend. I´ve passed by many times through this station but never stopped before to take a look. It’s a very lively and busy neighborhood. Not far is the famous university of Waseda, one of the most important in Tokyo. Yesterday it was open day so there were many students and many onlookers.

Comimos en este restaurante de ramen al estilo de Sapporo. Había mucha gente esperando en la puerta así que ya imagináis lo rico que estaba todo.

We ate at this Sapporo style ramen restaurant. There were a lot of people waiting outside so you can imagine how good was it.

En la pared tenían los autógrafos de muchos famosos que han pasado por el restaurante.

In the wall they have the signatures of famous people who ate at the restaurant.

La única cosa que no me gusta de comer ramen es que siempre me cuelgo medallas en la camisa. Creo que necesito un babero.

The only thing I don´t like about ramen is that I always get medals in my shirt. I think I need a bib.

Cuando terminamos de comer fuimos dando un paseo para encontrarnos con una amiga y mirad lo que vimos. Un mural de Astroboy o Atomboy como lo conocen aqui en Japón. Es uno de los personajes de comic más famosos y antiguos.

When we finished lunch we went for a walk to meet a friend and look what we found in the way. An Astroboy ,or Atomboy as it is known in Japan, mural. It’s one of the most famous and oldest comic characters.

Si os gusta Astroboy estáis de enhorabuena porque pronto van a estrenar una película suya.

If you like Astroboy you should be happy because there is a new movie coming soon.

El Tokyo Game Show esta lleno de azafatas guapas ( y no tan guapas) y de un montón de fans que acuden disfrazados de sus personajes favoritos. Conociendo a los japoneses seguro que hay más de uno que viene sólo para hacerle fotos a las chicas.

Tokyo Game Show is full of beautiful hostess (and not so beautiful) and a lot of fans who come dress up like their favourites characters. Knowing japanese people I´m pretty sure that a lot of them only come to take pictures of the girls.

Entre las salas de exposiciones estaba este hueco donde se reunía la gente.

Between the exhibition halls there was this gap where many people gathered.

Si os fijáis en los originales no les falta ni un detalle. Se nota que gastan mucho tiempo y dinero en este hobby.

If you take a look at the originals you won’t be missing any detail. You can tell that they spend a lot of time and money in this hobby.

El domingo estuve visitando el Tokyo Game Show. Una feria de videojuegos que se viene celebrando anualmente. La celebraban en Kaihin-Makuhari. Un barrio a las afueras de Tokyo que alberga el mayor centro de exposiciones que jamás he visto. Las construcciones son de lo más curioso. Os dejo algunas fotos para que os hagáis una idea.

Last sunday I was visiting Tokyo Game Show. A game event that takes place annually. It was in Kaihin-Makuhari. A neighborhood in the outer limits of Tokyo that has the biggest exhibition center that I have never seen. Edifications are really interesting. Here you have some pictures so you can check.

Quizás en otros tiempos hubiera estado muy emocionado al estar en este evento. Pero hoy en día no soy tan fanático de los videojuegos como lo solía ser. Así que el motivo principal de la visita era conocer un poco el ambiente y mostrároslo. Creo que la mejor forma es empezar por un video.

Maybe in the old times I would have been very excited about being in this event. But nowadays I´m not such a big fan of videogames as I used to be. So the main purpose of the visit was to catch the atmosphere and try to show it to you. I think the best way to start is with a video.

También os pongo este otro video en el que podéis ver un paseo desde la parte donde estaban las tiendas de souvenirs hasta uno de los stands de Dragon Quest. El juego que tiene enviciado a medio Japón y al amigo Ale.

Esta chica se encargaba de cronometrar el tiempo que cada persona podía jugar y también de limpiar los mandos cuando terminaban de jugar.

This girl was in charge of timing how long can people play and also of cleaning controllers after they finished.

En el stand de Konami estaba este tipo que es el que le pone la voz al protagonista del juego Metal Gear Solid. Miles de japoneses coreaban “sugoiiiii” (¡que guay!) cada vez que hablaba.

At Konami’s stand was this guy. He is the voice for the main character of the Metal Gear Solid game. Thousands of japaneses said at once “sugoiiii” (coool!) every time he spoke.

El espacio destinado a la feria era enorme.

The exhibition hall was huge.

A la salida había una auténtica avalancha de gente yendo a la estación.

At closing time there were lots of people coming back to the station.

Es casi imposible salir de la feria con las manos vacías. Mucha gente llevaba enormes bolsas. Yo sólo algunos folletos de recuerdo. La gente de Konami fueron los más listos porque repartían una especie de carpeta y la gente guardaba todo lo demás dentro.

It is almost impossible to come home with empty hands. A lot of people were carrying big bags. I only took some brochures. Konami’s guys were clever because they give you a kind of folder and people used it to store the rest of brochures.

Bueno pues eso es todo desde el Tokyo Game Show… ¡Oh espera! Se me ha olvidado poner fotos de las chicas y demás fauna de la feria. ¡Qué cabeza!… Bueno, algo había que dejar para mañana.

That´s it from Tokyo Game Show… Oh wait! I forgot to post some pictures of the girls and all the guys in costumes. ¡Oh my…! Well, I had to save something for tomorrow.

Paseando hoy por Yoyogi vi este cartel y me pregunté que aspecto tendría una boda japonesa tradicional. No le presté más atención y seguí adelante con mi paseo matutino.

Walking around Yoyogi today I saw this poster and I wondered myself how will look like a japanese traditional wedding. I did’nt pay too much attention and kept on with my morning walk.
